A Dance of Fire and Ice Review
The game revolves around two circles, fire or ice. The player must press the beat of the music every time they move to follow a pre-made path. The beat of the music can cause the path to change direction, for instance, 90-degree turn is an example of a half note.
- Soundtracks are amazing
- Attention to detail in world design is impressive
- Custom level creation
- Fun to play
- Sometimes feels repetitive
- Caution: highly addicting!
The game features 12 levels and it also has a level-creation system that allows players to create and share their custom levels. If you are still not sure about whether you want to play the game or not, let’s get started with the review and answer all your questions.
Levels
The content includes main levels, bonus levels, a range of Mushi levels, a selection developer's choice and community levels, there is a separate community level creator/browser that allows you to create or play custom level. Before you can play any level, you will be given a few tutorials. These help to explain the mechanics you'll encounter in the level. While you can practice any level, you are limited to practicing from the beginning and not going beyond your best attempt. Each level has a speed challenge that requires you to beat it at a faster pace. However, you can slowly increase your speed to make the transition from the goal speed easier.
Soundtracks and Graphics
This game features an incredible audio world that is filled with amazing songs. They can really get you upbeat and make it feel like you're on the verge of greatness. What is even more amazing is that the official soundtracks are also available for download, you can create charts and distribute them to others.
Another important thing to mention is the art. You all are familiar with the rhythm games osu! or Taiko. Most of the time, it will have a quiet background but it’s not the case in A Dance of Fire and Ice. The backgrounds for each world are beautifully designed and capture the mood of the song. World 12 has a section at the end with several TV screens. One of these is your current screen. I can't give much more information in order not to spoil it for you, but the detail makes things so much fun.
Difficulty
Let’s also look at the overall difficulty of this game. While this game can be extremely difficult, you will find many worlds and charts created by other players that help you relax and perhaps relearn some basic skills. I loved that each world had a different tutorial before you could attempt the last challenge. You can enjoy this game at any level, as it gives you a difficulty level that you can climb.
Is A Dance of Fire and Ice Worth Playing?
I recommend this game to everyone who is looking for a challenge. The majority of levels are great for casual fun. If you are looking for a challenging challenge that is both speedy and difficult, then the community levels, speed challenges, or special levels will suit your needs. Due to its addictive nature, this is not a game you should underestimate!
