Hogwarts Legacy Tips and Tricks
Hogwarts Legacy has a huge library of quests and characters as well as spells. It can be daunting to learn all the aspects that make up success at Hogwarts. Instead of just going to Potions every day, you will be doing all the work required for a student and discovering your hidden talents. We will group this beginner’s guide under 4 main categories: exploration, levelin-up, combat and good to know.
What to Know Before Playing
Tips and Tricks to Explore
Floo Flames
Exploring Hogwarts Legacy can be quite a challenge if you're doing it all on foot. That's why Floo Flames are so useful; they make travelling around the castle and Hogsmeade fast and easy. It's a good idea to unlock as many Floo Flames as you can when you first start playing, which will save you a lot of time and energy.
With Floo Flames, you won't have to worry about having to trudge between classrooms, and you'll have plenty of time to discover the other magical areas of Hogwarts.
Revelio
For those starting out, we highly recommend utilizing Revelio as much as possible once you become familiar with it. This charm is an integral part of your growth as a student, as it can help to reveal all the important details needed to aid your quest.
Stick to the Story
It would be easy to be tempted to explore the Highlands as soon as you arrive at Hogwarts in Hogwarts Legacy, but it's better to do the main quest first. You won't be able to access many of the game's features until you progress through the story; you won't be able to get a broom, the Room of Requirement won't be accessible, and you won't be able to upgrade your spells. Aim to get to Autumn at least before you start to explore the world, as most of the game's core mechanics will have unlocked by then, allowing you to navigate the game more easily.
The Map
When pursuing a main quest, its golden waypoint should be given precedence over personal waypoints, which are colored purple, on the mini-map. Personal waypoints won't be visible until the main quest has been deselected. It can get quite confusing in the beginning. I frequently found myself on a main quest site while trying to reach a side mission. Be aware of where you are going.
Tips and Tricks to Level Up
Complete Challenges
If you want to gain access to the best gear in the game, one of the most effective ways to do so is by completing challenges. This can include collecting Field Guide Pages, completing Merlin Trials, defeating multiple enemies, and more. Even if you don't realize it, you may be completing challenges as you play, so be sure to check the challenge menu regularly to ensure you don't miss out on these great rewards.
Inventory
If you're short on storage, don't get rid of your equipment. Visit shopkeepers often to sell any unnecessary items and get Galleons in return. It's a good idea to have a good supply of Galleons, as potions and supplies can get pricey.
Gear Slots
The lack of gear slots in Hogwarts Legacy can be quite irritating, particularly when the game is constantly bombarding the player with new equipment. This can even be game-breaking at times; for instance, I once opened a legendary chest only to find I had no spare slots to take the item, thus losing it for good. Fortunately, Merlin Trials is the solution. Found after visiting Natty in Lower Hogsfield, these open world challenges require Mallowsweet to start, and come with preset puzzles that need to be solved. If you complete enough of them, you can unlock additional gear slots in the challenges menu.
Alohomora
In order to open the locked doors that you will find while exploring Hogwarts and the Highlands, you must acquire the Alohomora spell. During the "The Caretaker's Lunar Lament" quest in Autumn, you will have the opportunity to obtain this lockpicking spell and collect Demiguise Statues for an enhanced version of it. For the highest level of unlocking, I suggest that you collect the nine moons to obtain Alohomora level two.
Tips and Tricks for Combat
Combos
You can still make a good amount of damage to your enemies by combining the spells you have available to you. Since your health might be a bit low at the start, it's best to use combos to your advantage to help you out against the early bosses. To practice your combos, you can head over to the Crossed Wands Dueling Club with Lucan and practice them there.
Classes
As a Fifth-Year student joining Hogwarts, you may find yourself lagging behind the rest of your peers. Your professors have kindly offered to teach you extra spells outside of class to help you catch up. These side quests can often be completed quickly by honing your dueling skills, such as dodging and counterattacking. Take advantage of these opportunities to learn new spells and gain a powerful advantage over your opponents.
Stealth
Employing clandestine tactics may be beneficial! Casting the Disillusionment charm and Petrificus Totalus can help you to sneak around hostile encampments and silently take out enemies, keeping them from participating in future battles. Additionally, Invisible potions may be used during skirmishes to conceal yourself after being detected.
Good to Know
- If more than one person is playing using the same account, or if you wish to create a character of a different house, all of your characters have their own save slots, meaning you can keep the files separate.
- It's not worth worrying too much about which House to join in Hogwarts Legacy, as it won't have much of an effect on most of the game. Each House does have some distinctions in their common rooms and special side quests, but apart from that, the selection won't matter much.
